Ski Fit Balance and Mobility

Get ready for the slopes — taught by an experienced Ski Instructor and Somatic Movement teacher, these are no ordinary ‘ski fitness’ sessions!

Considering the speeds & forces involved, skiing is one of the safest sports. However many people still injure themselves on a snowsports holiday because they didn’t prepare in advance. Skiing & boarding injuries are unusual though - typically an advanced skier or boarder crashing at high speeds, dusts themselves off & carries on, while a beginner or intermediate might injure themselves going at only a few miles an hour. This is actually because if the body is being held stiffly before & during a fall, the risk of injury in greatly increased. Injuries especially in the knees, are often really caused by restricted mobility in the hips – a common side effect of our increasingly sedentary modern lifestyles. Likewise, tiredness and that familiar leg-burn,  are typically due to inability to relax while skiing or boarding, meaning that you use inefficient movement patterns & much more muscular effort than is actually required

It is typically NOT lack of muscular strength or conditioning that leads to injury or stops you progressing to a higher level. Most injuries happen because of a combination of restricted mobility, and even more importantly, inability to relax fully while skiing.

So it is not necessarily greater strength & a bunch of squats you need - instead we teach you how to increase mobility & learn better, more efficient movement patterns so that you can ski or board in a safer, more relaxed & enjoyable way.

Speeding down the slopes is not the best place to try to learn these new skills!

Give yourself a head start by learning the movement & balance skills you need in the studio before you leave.
Then relax & reap the rewards of easier, more confident skiing & boarding when you’re away!

• Prevent & protect yourself from injury by developing greater mobility where it’s most needed
• Find better balance & centring - so that you can be more relaxed on the slopes
• Improve performance - learn to Ski & Board SMARTER not HARDER
• Cover more distance & hit new heights by learning the movement patterns needed for EFFICIENT Skiing & Boarding
