During One2One Somatic Movement Education Sessions, the Somatic Movement Educator uses gentle touch to guide you through a series of simple movements, designed to help you learn to lengthen and relax muscles and correct inefficient movement patterns.
The areas of the body we work with in a session are determined by any problems or restrictions you are currently experiencing. Our aim is always to take the minimum possible number of sessions to help you achieve your own personal goals.
What to expect from a Somatics Session
The work is done fully clothed either on a yoga-type mat on the floor, or on a low table. You should wear loose comfortable clothes during the session. An initial appointment & assessment is usually for 90mins, thereafter a session normally lasts 75 minutes and is tailored to your requirements.
The intention of the Educator's hands is to guide & teach you, allowing you the space to explore the movements for yourself, & focus on your own internal sensations. The movements are designed to re-educate your mind's control of your muscles & how you move. During & after the session there is time to ask questions - the more you understand about how your own body works, & the more you are able to sense what is happening, the more quickly you are able to take responsibility for your own well-being.
You will be given a set of tailored self-care exercises to help you maintain and enhance your new range of movement further.
Ideally you will commit to spend about 10-15 minutes per day on your self-care exercises in between our sessions together. You will gain most from this work and realise the ongoing benefits by being as actively engaged as possible, & dailly exercises have a cumulative effect, re-inforcing & enhancing the changes that we make during our sessions together. We are creating & enhancing new pathways in your brain & nervous system, & so it is important to put in some time to establish these new patterns & break old unhelpful habits!
Bookings
The number of sessions required varies depending on your goals & needs. As a guide, clients attending for between 3 to 5 sessions generally see significant improvements in many common conditions.
We will set clear objectives for our work together from the start. The sessions can be spaced apart to suit your schedule, or we can work together more intensively.
We are happy to offer concessionary rates depending on personal circumstances & sessions in your own home may be possible if you have limited mobility & are unable to travel to see us.
